Then Jesus Came...
Their ship was tossed;
The waves rose high, the wind with fury blew,
The night was dark, fear gripped the little crew.
Then Jesus came.
On turbid sea He walked, in dead of night;
He calmed the wind, and banished all their fright.
Two sisters wept -
For death had snatched their brother dear away;
Within the tomb his cold, still body lay.
And then He came -
Their Master, dearest Friend. He called the dead forth from the tomb, and all their sorrows fled.
They were afraid.
Behind closed doors the Lord's disciples met,
By disappointment, doubts, and fear beset.
'Twas then He came,
Their fears to quell, their perished hopes restore.
He was not dead, but living - evermore!
Just so, today -
When we are tossed and driven on life's sea,
When sorrows come, when hopes has ceased be,
Then Jesus comes -
And oh, what peace His blessed presence brings!
He cheers the saddened heart, and fears take wings.
